What are Gap-free recordings?

I've heard the term used quite a lot, but have absolutely no idea what it means. Can anyone elaborate? Thanks.

It's a continuous recording

It's a continuous recording of a signal  - like the kind that is used in single channel elecrophysiology Episodic recrdings - like the kind used to generate I-V relationships have Gaps / pauses between each sweep.
