polyclonal antibody production

What is the max time for boost immunization? (for new zelland rabbit to produce polyclonal antibody with GST tagged protein)
Is the age of rabbit important in terms of antibody production?

Boosting a rabbit is something that will depend a lot on how antigenic your protein is, how it was administered (what adjuvant you used) and the age of the rabbit. In my experience (using plant proteins) you want a young rabbit so that it did not have much time to develop immunities to a number of proteins (especially from its feed).
A good rule of thumb is to boost 2 weeks after the first injection and at least once within the first month.
This is from my experience using New Zeland Whites.

Thanks Ivan. I'm using Freund

Thanks Ivan. I'm using Freund's adjuvant and GST tagged HIV proteins. It seems it is better to use young animals to increase development rate of immunization.

Hi bsengez,

Hi bsengez,
I agree. Everything else equal, younger animals should work better. What I used to do was obtain four pre-bleds (four rabbits) per antibody I wanted to generate and determine which bleed showed the least cross-reactivity to my GST-fusion. The one that showed the least cross-reactivity got injected.
Good luck
