Delipidization of plasma procedure

Hi! I was working on a project using delipid plasma and was asked to come up with a procedure to prepare it in-house.  We are using Heparin (Li)  plasma and really was unable to find anything substantial online thus far.  Any help is much appreciated! Thanks! Emily

Hi Ejsuscha

Hi Ejsuscha
Im working on the blood palsma and we regularly delipidateour samples.
We use centrifugation at 14000g for 45 min at 0C. this procedure is sufficeint enough for the removal of confounding intereference from the lipids in plasma.
Although you can use organic solvents for the same, but in my experience that leads to precipiataion of varaible extent and sample to sample reproducibility is questionable.
Check the followin refernces:
Cham B. E. and Knowles B. R, A solvent system for delipidation of plasma or serum without protein precipitation. J. Lipid Research, 17 (1976), 176-181.
Terpstra, A. H., Isolation of plasma lipoproteins by a combination of differential and density gradient ultracentrifugation. Anal. Biochem. 1985, 150, 221–227.

these are quite old papers but provide a simple efficient and cost effective method for delipidation of plasma/ serum and other biofluids
