Post doc fired for creationist beliefs

I came across this story from last year:

http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2007/12/07/biologist_fired_for_beliefs_suit_says/?p1=MEWell_Pos2

It seems a postdoc's disbelief in evolution led to his firing. The strange part of this story me, is why this postdoc would want to work in a development/evolutionary biology lab in the first place. I think the PI and Woods Hole can insist on a belief in evolution when it is critical to the work being done. The judge ruling on the subsequent lawsuit agreed.

I'm guessing the $500,000 might have had something to do with his decision...and he seems to have been fired for refusing to carry out work required for the project he was supposed to be working on, and NOT for his beliefs - so he will walk away empty handed and hopefully red-faced.

I'm also wondering which University gave this guy a Bachelor's degree in the first place.

Although I do feel sorry for

Although I do feel sorry for Abraham being a creationist myself, I feel he had no business applying to a lab that deals with concepts of science that he doesn't believe in. I'm sure if anyone applies for a job in the army they shouldn't have any issues about killing people because that is what the army does. You can't enlist to go to Iraq as an army cadre and then spend the whole time in hiding because you do not believe in killing people (I mean that is what the army does so you should accept it). As a creationist myself I will not apply to an institution that specialises in concepts that violates the core of my beliefs.
