The Vatican and Bioethics

The Vatican issued a 32 page statement entitled "The Dignity of the Person" that outlines its views "reinforcing the church’s opposition to in vitro fertilization, human cloning, genetic testing on embryos before implantation and embryonic stem cell research."

Its unfortunate that the catholic church takes this stand against biomedical science. It puts catholic doctors and biomedical researchers into tricky situations.

The Catholic church has clearly changed its views - it wasn't that long ago that it supported the burning of protestants at the stake and slavery. It just needs to speed up its pace of change to prevent it becoming completely irrelevant.
