Opening For Research Associate (Bioinformatician) Cardiff University

 The successful applicant will have a keen interest in bioinformatics, with proven experience of manipulating, organising and disseminating large amounts of genetic data. Expert knowledge of data manipulation in a UNIX/Linux environment and proficiency in high level scripting language such as perl or python is essential. In addition, experience in manipulation and analysis of large datasets from different sources and in different formats is required. Strong communication skills as well as the ability to interact with other scientists and to work in an international and interdisciplinary team are essential.
Solid skills in a high level programming language such as Java or C++, knowledge of database technologies and SQL and some experience with R statistics will be considered an asset. Knowledge of techniques used in genetic epidemiology, and software such as PLINK or IMPUTE, is desirable, however training will be available.
The post is available to start immediately.  The successful applicant will be appointed on a full-time basis (35 hours per week) and is fixed term for two years.
