Automated Cell counter

Hello,

We are going to buy an automated cell counter.

Can anybody give some guidance about which one is the best and in your lab you are using Which one?

Thanks
Rajeshwari

Invitrogen

Invitrogen

that's the one most labs are using in our institute.

But, there is some limitation of automatic cell counters, eg. won't distinguish cell clusters from a single cell. so try to trypsinize as good as you can and try to do the manual count once the readouts from the automatic one goes far off from your expectation.

Good luck.

We we're using ViCell from

We we're using ViCell from Beckman. I only used it a dozen of times and it worked very well. As Kangmu noted, clusters can be a problem but depending on the settings you have, it can figure out small clusters of 3-4 cells. I haven't tried any other brand so I can't really compare...

Hi Rajeswari

Hi Rajeswari
We use invitrogen countess machine and is very satisfied with the performance. I consider automated counter  as essential to cell culture lab especially if you have to be specific like the no of cells required for experiements, harvesting at certain % confluencey and so on.

We tried a 'pipette' style

We tried a 'pipette' style counter from Millipore and found that it was wildly inaccurate. I think that unless you are counting thousands of cells for a growth promotion test, diluting and counting manually is the best way.

"ADAM " Automated Cell Counter and for Image capturing  "Juli"

Please give your opinion about this two things

We have the invitrogen

We have the invitrogen countess machine and I don't like it. It rounds up to the nearest 100,000 and repeated measures give large variability. Also, consumables are really expensive. I stick to the Levy chamber.

Hi Victorius

Hi Victorius
I also have experienced variability within a range especially for viability  of cells. This also depends on the accuracy of the micropipette used to dispense the 10uL of the dye and cells.I take special attention to ensure that only 10uL of the dye is added to the cells. After taking the dye I touch the tip on the side of the dye tube to remove any dye sticking to outside of the tip.
Hope this might be of some help in getting better results with countess machine.
