Research Assistant / Associate
Ref: 008638

Applications are invited for a research assistant/associate position to work with Dr. Jurre Kamphorst in the cancer metabolism unit, to study the role of lipid metabolism in cancer. Our research focuses on how oncogenic events and external factors like diet and tumour microenvironment impinge on cancer cell metabolism to induce tumour growth, with an emphasis on pancreatic cancer. For this we combine state-of-the-art mass spectrometry, cell biology, biochemical and computational approaches. Long term goals are to develop dietary recommendations and pharmacological therapies that exploit metabolic dependencies of tumours to impair their growth.

Our lab is situated at the Beatson Institute in Glasgow – one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. It is core funded by Cancer Research UK and supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies with special emphasis on imaging and proteomics & metabolomics.

The successful, highly motivated candidate will aid in the setup of a comprehensive, mass spectrometry-based lipid analysis platform, and in the development of stable isotope tracer protocols for investigation into lipid fluxes. In addition, the candidate is expected to initiate as well as collaborate in various cancer lipid metabolic projects.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr. Jurre Kamphorst (jurre.kamphorst@glasgow.ac.uk).

This position is funded for 3 years.
