Research Associate – Enhanced Oil Recovery
Heriot-Watt University - Institute of Petroleum Engineering
Location: Edinburgh
Salary: £29,837 to £36,661 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract: Contract / Temporary
Placed on: 30th May 2014
Closes: 30th June 2014

Fixed Term for 2 years
IPE at Heriot-Watt University is a postgraduate Institute with a number of popular and industry-standard Masters courses, as well as a population of PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.
IPE is one of the world leaders in the research area of enhanced oil and gas recovery and we are seeking to recruit a Research Associate within the Centre for Enhanced Oil Recovery and CO2 solutions to support current and future research activities in this area.
The role holder will carry out and support the theoretical activities related to multiphase fluid flow in porous media including gas injection, WAG injection, foam and chemical injection and will undertake the following duties:
Processing, analysis and interpretation of experimental data.
Development of future releases of our in-house 3RPSim Software. This software includes a 3-phase core flood history matching programme that allows determination of three-phase relative permeability curves directly from three-phase coreflood experiments.
Development of new mathematical models simulating multiphase flow of gas, oil and water in porous media.
Numerical simulation of our findings in the laboratory and field scales including gas injection, WAG and SWAG injection, CO2 injection, CO2 foam injection in heavy oil using commercial compositional reservoir simulators.
Presenting the results of the above studies in technical internal, national and international meetings in the form of technical reports, papers and oral presentations.
Applicants will have at least three years’ experience in modelling and simulation of three-phase flow in porous media, especially 3-phase kr and its dependency on other parameters, and at least three years’ experience in computer programming.
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Heriot-Watt
