Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will lead the engineering development, optimisation and validation of a unique implantable polymer based glaucoma device for patient use. As part of a multidisciplinary team, he/she will carry out a wide range of duties including laboratory-based device fabrication which will involve mould design and optimisation of processing parameters; characterisation of device prototypes and materials properties including physicochemical, mechanical and biomedical properties; determination of property correlations necessary for device optimisation; ensuring documentation meets regulatory and commercial requirements; advising junior team members; drafting reports, manuscripts and grants. 
The position is funded for 36 months from 1 August 2014 in the first instance. 
Key Requirements
A PhD in a relevant biomedical science or engineering is essential, as is engineering and design experience. Expert level use and application of computer aided engineering software is required, and knowledge of the medical device development process is essential, as is experience of working in cross-functional project teams with the ability to draw on multi-disciplinary expertise for device design and development.
