Scope of Position:
Principle equipment engineer responsible to design washing and coating systems for use in development and high volume manufacturing. The candidate will have the ability to take design requirement information from development; engineering and operations groups to produce functioning systems.
 
Day to Day Responsibilities:
·         Assigned to engineering project teams that are responsible to deliver robust, cost effective, flexible process machine and automation systems to Corning’s manufacturing plants and processes.
·         Work with project team members to solve difficult mechanical engineering and process equipment related problems, resolve and develop fundamental understanding of equipment to improve manufacturing performance.
·         Interface with external machine builders, system integrators, and suppliers to specify and successfully deliver fully integrated process machine systems on-time, on-budget, and in satisfaction of process performance measures.
·         Ensures design documents meet Corning drawing standards.
·         Actively participates in system integration /debug, installation IQ, OQ and PQ events, including training of receivers and other relevant personnel.
·         Report on project activities on a pre-determined basis. Ensure results meet the customer’s requirements and standards.
·         Maintain records and track expenditures against allocated funds. Estimate time required to accomplish tasks and monitor performance against schedules.
 
Travel Requirements:
·         40+% possible, including international
·         On-site assignments at manufacturing operations worldwide
·         Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours, Monday – Friday
 
Required Education:
·         B.S. – M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
 
Required Skills:
·         Engineering knowledge in Six-Sigma, DOE, FMEA, SPC, Process Characterization, especially around surfaces, cleanliness, coatings, optical properties of surfaces, water quality etc.
·         High level of technical curiosity that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges incumbent in the position.
·         Strong fundamental understanding of mechanical design practices, automation, material handling, and surface technologies.
·         Experience designing systems for deployment in “clean room” or “contamination sensitive” applications
·         Familiar with the following equipment system areas: electro-mechanical drive systems, pneumatics, robotics, material handling, alignment, part sensing, and general safety standards.
·         Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage and manage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of machine system implementation.
·         The candidate should be able to apply fundamentals of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to ensure a quality design package.
·         Ability to work in a team based environment and participate on a highly matrixed project team.
·         Self-starter who is able to satisfy objectives and timelines with a minimal amount of supervision.
·         Experience using problem solving and decision-making processes and skills.
 
Desired Skills:
·         Detail Oriented
·         Rigorous
·         2-D and 3-D CAD, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and knowledge of ANSI Y14.5-1994 drafting standard.
·         Knowledge of automation and precision engineering principles
·         Experience with Current Good Automated Manufacturing Practices (cGAMP) in a regulatory environment.

·         Strong interpersonal skills – effective at interacting and communicating across a diverse group of people at varying payroll levels.
·         Good organizational and time management skills.
·         Flexible, able to work with various groups within an organization at various levels.
