Our department wants to purchase a PCR machine - however, since we are limited by cost. The machine shouldn't exceed 5-7000 euros we cannot afford to buy a RT-PCR machine just yet. Thus, we want to buy a regular PCR machine for now that also has a gradient function (doesn't have to have an automatic lid). Does anyone have experience with upgradable PCR machines, or has purchased one and then upgraded it without problems?. Or do you know a specific product that fits these prereqisits and is known to be good?
Thanks a lot in advance for sharing your experience.
Cheers,
Barbara.
I used Stratagene PCR machines in my lab and always had consistent results with my reactions. Here is there technical support info (you should give them a call to see if they can upgrade your machine):

Our lab uses the MultiGene Optimax. We have always had very good results with our reactions. This unit is not very expensive and is a good option for a gradient machine.
