Post-doctoral fellowships are available in the lab of Dr. Paula Cannon at the University of Southern California, with a focus on the translational application of genome editing technologies such as zinc finger nucleases and CRISPR/Cas9.
We work with clinically relevant cells such as hematopoietic stem cells, and a major goal of the lab is developing HIV cure therapies.
Post-docs can expect rigorous training in a variety of cutting edge technologies, as well as interactions with both clinical and biotech collaborators. Ideal candidates would be both serious and creative about their careers, already have expertise in cell and molecular biology, and an ability (and passion) to work independently once up to speed. The right person is more important than the perfect background, and this includes an ability to work with and respect other people, communicate effectively, and handle multiple projects at the same time. Some other skills that will help but are not essential include familiarity with FACS, mouse models, immunology, bioinformatics, hematopoiesis, AAV vectors, DNA repair. And please – have an appreciation for life at a large university in a great city with fabulous weather!
