We are looking for a Scientific Application Specialist/Scientific Account Manager (SAM) for our Genedata Screener® product line, a premier analytical software system for pharmaceutical screening data. The successful candidate will work at the forefront of current screening science, interacting with key international users and IT experts, and the latest data sets from high content-, label-free- and ion channel screening. The SAM acts as an interface between science and sales, working with both external customer projects and the internal development team.
Externally the SAM will support our growing business by delivering scientific pre-sales, consulting, and implementation projects, and will work with customers through all phases of the sales cycle and the entire project lifespan through to delivery. Internally the SAM orchestrates the work of the service and implementation teams, ensures the quality of implementations, guarantees adherence to budget and time lines, provides critically reviewed customer feedback to product management, and supports the sales force with product expertise in customer presentations.
This position is based out of the San Francisco office. It requires about 20% travel.
This interdisciplinary, multi-faceted position at the interface between professional service projects for our customers, including coordination of internal development resources, and outbound sales activities, offers an exciting opportunity to support, shape, and promote a successful, cutting-edge software system. The successful candidate will be expected to:
• support our users as a domain expert in screening data analysis
• coordinate installations and apply customer-specific software configurations
• answer technical and scientific inquiries
• support our sales teams with product expertise, scientific presentations, and software demonstrations
• identify customer needs, map them to the capabilities of the software, identify new business opportunities
• define appropriate service projects with customers to fulfill unmet needs
• manage, execute, and deliver service and implementation projects to our customers
• ensure the quality of implementations and guarantee adherence to budget and time lines
• compile customer feedback and identify new analytical methods and solutions to address customers’ challenges.
To successfully fill this position you hold a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in quantitative biology, bioinformatics, applied physics, or applied mathematics. You have knowledge of pharmaceutical research and the drug discovery process and ideally experience in the analysis of high-throughput screening data. You have successfully managed projects and delivered professional services, where you have demonstrated competence and a self-motivated and independent work ethic. The ideal candidate has at least two to four years project management experience in either the software industry or the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
You have excellent communication and presentation skills. We require strong initiative and dedication to quality of work as well as the ability to interact productively with scientists and IT experts at our customers’ facilities. Practical experience in software development, computer fluency as well as a good understanding of scientific data analysis are required. Technical familiarity with UNIX systems is required, and facility with the Python scripting and Java are definite advantages. A background in statistics would be a plus.
