We are looking for a Bioinformatician to join the Ensembl Genomes group which based at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
The post holder will be expected to work with the Ensembl Metazoa group and our partners to perform data integration and analyses tasks to ensure the optimal development of the resource. Their tasks will include: gene prediction, comparative analysis, cross reference assignment. Other projects with which the post holder will be involved with include VectorBase and INFRAVEC.
The post holder will report to the Ensembl Metazoa coordinator (currently Dan Lawson), in the team of Paul Kersey.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have at least two years bioinformatics experience in a research or production environment. A first degree in biology/bioinformatics and a relevant higher degree such as an MSc in Bioinformatics or Computer Science, PhD or equivalent work experience is required. Experience of working with research scientists in a production environment managing scientific data is desirable. Prior experience of programming or scripting is essential and a solid working knowledge of Perl is required.
The post requires excellent communication skills, as the post holder will work in a busy team and will interact with users of the infrastructure, grant partners and other EBI staff. The successful candidate will be expected to represent the team at international meetings, give presentations and contribute to training materials and courses both internally and externally.
