We are currently seeking an Assistant-Level Chemist with BS/BA in Chemistry or related physical science degree and 1 to 3 years experience in the environmental field. Applicants with experience in hazwaste investigations (RI/FS); experience with Phase I/Phase II investigations, DNAPL contamination, MGP, and/or utility companies a plus. Must be able to attain (or have current) OHSA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (40 CFR 1910.120) and medical clearance for field work at hazardous waste sites. Candidates with good working knowledge of USEPA, NJDEP and NYSDEC environmental regulations; extensive hands-on experience with RI/FS investigations; strong communications skills; and excellent technical, analytical and writing skills will be given preference. Responsibilities include: providing project chemistry tasks and field investigation support; working with contractors and clients; specifying field analytical programs; writing FSPs, QAPPs and reports; and, data management. Must also remain current with technical literature and/or government/agency regulations pertaining to Environmental Chemistry, FSP/QAPPs, site investigations, field/laboratory analytical methods, etc. and assist in the implementation of Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Programs in the office and field. PREFERRED SKILLS: Technical Communications: • Ability to present data orally and visually using creative techniques • Ability to present data in concise reports and memos • Computer Knowledge of personal computers using Windows operating systems. • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel software packages. Desired Skills: • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (40 CFR 1910.120). • Experience supporting field sampling programs for monitoring and assessment of environmental media including surface water, sediment, soil, air, and groundwater. • Experience scheduling, directing, and supervising subcontract laboratories. • CPR and First Aid training. • Experience with groundwater, surface water, sediment, and soil sampling per NJDEP, NYSDEC, and/or USEPA SOPs. • Experience with MS ACCESS, prior work experience in an environmental lab or performing data validation, and GPS unit operation a plus. • Experience with calibrating/operating field/laboratory instruments (water quality instruments, organic vapor analyzers, combustible gas indicators, field GCs/test kits, XRF, etc.). Ability to: • Lift up to 40 lbs; • Work for extended periods of time in the field, under hot or cold, humid, and wet conditions
