Opening For Scientific Officer, Specialist Chemistry : Christchurch

 Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) is the leading medical diagnostic reference laboratory in New Zealand with laboratory links and collaborative partners throughout New Zealand and the world.
A key vacancy exists in our largest and most diverse specialist laboratory. Testing includes trace metal analyses by ICP MS; specialist lipid assays including electrophoresis, ultracentrifugation and immunochemistry, paediatric biochemistry and biogenic amines by tandem MS; calculi analysis by FTIR, porphyrin studies by LC Fluorescence and faecal testing by Elisa. The section employs 2 Scientific Officers, 11 Medical Laboratory Scientists and 4 Medical Laboratory Technicians and is responsible for a total of 176 tests.
We are looking for an experienced scientist, proficient in analytical chemistry. Expertise with mass spectrometry is highly desirable, as are computer literacy and problem solving skills.
The ability to provide technical oversight and contribute to scientific direction is essential. Tertiary science qualification will be an advantage, as will a record of scientific publication.
You will work in an IANZ accredited diagnostic section that has expertise in delivering specialist clinical tests to both primary and secondary care providers.
You will be expected to work closely with clinicians, scientists and researchers within CHL and the Christchurch Medical School to liaise with biotech companies and the organisers of clinical studies.
You will be part of a team and expected to take part in the training and development of other staff. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.
