Opening For Senior Technician - Northumbria University

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Technician to work in laboratories of the Department of Applied Sciences to lead technical support in the field of chromatography and mass spectrometry. Current LCMS equipment includes a Bruker HCT Ultra, a Thermo QExactive quadrupole-orbitrap, a Thermo LCQ Advantage and an Agilent LC MSD Trap XCT Plus. Current GCMS equipment includes four Thermo Focus GC DSQ and a Agilent 7890A- BenchTOF-dx. Alongside these equipment are suites of HPLC and GC used for research, teaching and consultancy purposes, and more specialist facilities in GPC, ion chromatography and pyrolysis GCMS.
 
These facilities are used by academic staff working in environmental and forensic analysis, food science, historic and modern art analysis, proteomics and metabolomics, as well as supporting practical teaching from BSc to MChem/MSc and PhD.
 
You will be required to provide professional specialist technical support across the Faculty for chromatography and associated mass spectrometry techniques to support staff and students working in teaching, research and consultancy. This may include maintenance of equipment and facilities, method development for new and ongoing research and consultancy, demonstration in support of analytical science teaching. This post will also play a key role in contributing to the planning and development of facilities.
 
You must have excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry, and more generally of working in a laboratory environment with good health and safety working practices.
