Organic Material Scientist

Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):
A Material Scientist/Engineer within the Willow Glass Laminate Group that is responsible for:
• Understanding impact of adhesives materials on laminate performance
• Understanding impact of adhesives on cutting process and edge strength performance
• Recommending optimal adhesives to meet targeted performance
• Optimizing laminate stack to meet customer requirements
• Leading specific projects (DOE, sample fabrication, etc.) in accordance with timeline and meeting targeted objectives
• Understanding the interaction of various materials within a laminate under various environmental conditions
• Coordinating the design and construction of Willow Glass laminates for customer product prototypes
• Transferring any relevant technology to the Willow Glass laminate manufacturing organization or customers
• Presenting results verbally and in written form to individuals and groups within the Willow Glass organization
• Assisting with the preparation and execution of product demonstrations for visiting customers or tradeshows

Day to Day Responsibilities:
• Plan and execute experiments;
• Hands on production of samples including laminates
• Interact with SMEs in adhesives and organic materials, and well as modeling resources in development or research organizations
• Generate, analyze and communicate results for the experiments,
• Make recommendations on the next steps
• Innovate and advance Willow Glass laminate product and process technology, specifically in the areas of lamination and adhesives. Develop the understanding of the impact of adhesives on cutting process and performance
• Develop and build a technical understanding of key product attributes by establishing a thorough knowledge of customer and internal specifications.
• Regularly interact with Commercial and Commercial Technology teams to interpret customer technical feedback and incorporate this into the making of laminates.
• Interact with engineering and manufacturing for technology transfer
• File IP as appropriate

Travel Requirements (please note if international):
• Approximately 10% travel within the US mostly with the potential for occasional travel overseas (e.g. CPM)

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
• 40 hours per week

Required Education (minimum required for consideration):
• MS in Materials Science/Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer Engineering
• PhD is a plus but is not a MUST

Required Years and Area of Experience: (minimum required for consideration):
• 3-5 years of product or process development preferred

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess):
• Technical depth in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer Engineering
• Good knowledge in adhesives or polymer materials properties and tests
• Ability to plan for the technical work (objectives, milestones, timing, resources)
• Ability to lead a project according to timeline
• Ability to interact with SMEs in adhesives and materials
• Ability to guide modeling resources on issues related to organic materials
• Result oriented; hands-on
• Good practical sense; ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
• Able to effectively interface between cross-functional groups to effectively perform experiments
• Able to work on hard problems with robust attention to detail
• Strong knowledge of software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess):
• Basic knowledge of glass properties
• Ability to guide the efforts of 2-3 technicians or the potential to quickly develop this skill
• Background in lamination
• Knowledge in the Stages of innovation
• Experience in product and process development
