Purpose of Position:
• Project resource to provide responsive and effective support to cable plants globally to achieve lowest cost, highest quality performance - “the best” in each geographic region in which we operate.
• Deployable to all cable regions (AMER, APAC and EMEA) to provide local resource support and solutions for technical and non-technical opportunities in ORM cost reduction. .
• Replicate, implement and standardize best-in-class business practices for OFC operations.
• Establish, organize and manage critical Cost Reduction road map to support business strategy for reducing ORM costs.
• Facilitate, leverage and coordinate available resource skill-sets from around the world, including Cables RDE, Corning MTE and regional engineering groups. Establish, organize and manage ORM Cost Reduction required for Corning Optical Fiber and Cables (COFC) for cable manufacturing CR.
• Principal Manager for achieving results and updating business management on strategy, plans, status and corrective actions.
Note: This position involves 10-20% travel and working outside the US in 1-2 week periods.

Major Responsibilities – Ongoing Tasks:
• Establish a program and portfolio of projects and actions to achieve divisional ORM cost reduction objectives. Maintain an on-going project and action list and periodically report progress to the OFC ORM CR steering team.
• Establish local reporting ties within assigned cable region(s) and seek to mentor local stakeholders during project execution to ensure sustainability of results. Coordinate ORM CR activities within manufacturing with all other business groups: Operations, Commercial, Technology and Procurement/Supply Chain.
• Ensure a “grass roots” coordination with Regional Engineering Managers and Plant Engineering Managers for all ORM CR activities.
• Remove obstacles to effective project execution by coordinating with functional support departments and internal and external customers and suppliers to obtain critical resources, information and results. Manage improvement portfolios such as capital, cost reduction, and resources.
• Develop international cable manufacturing experience in different cultures. Use this experience to educate colleagues and promote global synergy and cooperation.
• Apply financial tools to effectively communicate project business justification and manage assets. Use Innovation Platform (IPP) and Change Management technology processes to ensure proper implementation of new products and technology improvements to achieve CR goals.
• Execute projects resulting from annual Manufacturing Strategy review and deep dive exercise. For 2015 this requires focus on ORM CR to achieve defined manufacturing goals. Mentor and facilitate leadership at cable plants.

• Maintain a relationship with international cable plant employees, cable customers and suppliers and Corning engineering groups

Direct reporting relationships:
• This position reports directly to the Cables Capability Manager, Division Engineering.

Education:
• BS degree in Engineering or Materials Science (Plastics preferred)

Minimum Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• Min of 7 years manufacturing experience (or 5 years Corning equivalent experience)
• Mastery of manufacturing best practices, material conversion and philosophy in optimizing operations.
• Strong communications, leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Superior project management and organizational skills.

Experience:
• Technology development, manufacturing, or project management experience with results above expectation for significant projects in optical cable or fiber manufacturing or experience with complex projects with multiple concurrent work-streams
• Experience using plant systems and best practices to implement change: process, product, cost reduction, continuous improvement, manufacturing systems
• Experience with production & quality plant systems; problem-solving and decision-making skills
• B.S. in Engineering, Material Science or other relevant technical degree
• Proven high performance engineer and/or technical manager – credible across COFC
• Proven technology to manufacturing engineering leadership (PPD to Ops, New Product/Change Instructions)
• Ability to establish, staff and manage engineering portfolio using multiple business plans (BB, GB, Op plan)
• Established track record of use of SM, MEE – ability to drive engineering discipline
• Has been managed in a matrixed environment
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate manufacturing performance from a materials cost, technical, process or organizational standpoint and develop plans and strategies to address
• Exhibits sound decision making skills and exercises good judgment; is able to effectively analyze and simplify data from multiple sources and set direction as required
• Demonstrated active leadership ability to establish direction, challenging goals, and clear expectations in driving the global organization to achieve results
• Demonstrated experience coordinating activities within functional responsibility and collaborating with other groups to achieve results

Minimum Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• 5 years fiber or cable experience or 3 years Corning plus 2 years equivalent experience.
• 4 year Technical Degree.
• 3 years cable engineering experience.
• Mastery of cable manufacturing best practices and philosophy in optimizing operations
• Strong communications, leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Superior project management and organizational skills.
