Reader/Professorship in Computational/Systems Biology
We invite applications from world class research scientists using computational/systems biology approaches to the understanding of biological problems. This appointment will both facilitate and exploit the expansion of sequencing, genomic and transcriptomic work at UCL. The successful candidate will have access to UCL’s cutting edge research infrastructure such as platform technologies including genomics and next generation sequencing as well as high-end computing and storage facilities. There are also opportunities to work with biomedical researchers to exploit UCL’s large collection of tissue banks and biological repositories. The successful candidate will be expected to:-
• play a leadership role in computational/systems biology
• co-ordinate efforts to respond to national and international funding initiatives
• develop existing and new postgraduate training programmes and contribute to undergraduate teaching.
The successful candidate will have an internationally recognised track record of research in an area of computational/systems biology. For the Chair, he/she is expected to have a continuing track record of external research grant funding over a number of years and doctoral research supervision. For a Readership, he/she is expected to have past success in obtaining external funding and experience of doctoral research supervision. At either level, candidates are also expected to have a track record in publishing high impact original research articles, experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. The appointee will possess a PhD or equivalent qualification.
Depending on qualifications and experience, the appointment will be made either on the UCL Reader scale: Grade 9 range of £50,700 – £55,142 per annum, or on the UCL Professorial scale: minimum salary negotiable but not less than £61,713 per annum. The salaries are inclusive of London Allowance.
