UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, one of the world’s leading academic medical centers, has an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist whose duties include DNA sequencing to identify mutations in the mouse genome. As our Research Scientist, you will plan, organize as well as participate in our research projects, determining goals to be attained and planning experimental protocols. You will serve the needs of our large laboratory and will work from a queue of assignments, constantly updating the queue to reflect job status. You will also interact with a programmer who will assist in the design of primers and interpretation of trace files. Plus you will communicate directly with a number of laboratory personnel who will provide samples and specific instructions.
Working on DNA sequencing to identify mutations in the mouse genome, you will validate mutations identified by massively parallel short read sequencing; genotype mice with specific mutations; genetically map phenotypes to specific intervals of the genome; establish the limits of deletions within the mouse genome; and sequence cDNA to verify constructs and/or determine the effects of splicing mutations induced by mutagens.
Requires a Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience in the field of assignment, including at least 4 as a senior research associate or equivalent. Or a Bachelor's degree with at least 9 years of experience, 4 as a senior research associate.
This position calls for extensive experience with Sanger capillary sequencing as well as robotics, with preference given to those applicants skilled in the use of the Beckman FX liquid handling system. A high degree of independence, excellent organizational skills, strong technical abilities, and a capacity for rapid work with multitasking are ESSENTIAL for this position.
