Research Scientist Positions in Experimental Biomimetic Nanoscience

Open post-doctoral researcher and PhD student positions in the Molecular Materials group (academy professor Olli Ikkala) at Aalto University (formerly Helsinki University of Technology) within the Department of Applied Physics. The laboratory is situated in the Otaniemi Campus easily accessible from the city centre of Helsinki.

We offer a multidisciplinary research environment at the forefront of nanoscience, newly renovated laboratory space and excellent equipment pool. Salary is based on the university salary scheme.

We explore polymer self-assemblies, supramolecular concepts for hierarchies, biomimetic materials, nanocellulose, aerogels, and functional porous materials (e.g. Science, 295, 2407, 2002; Science, 280, 557, 1998; Nature Materials, 3, 872, 2004; Nature Nanotechnology, 5, 584, 2010; Nano Letters, 10, 2742, 2010; Adv Mat, 23, 2924, 2011, Angew. Chem. 50, 2516, 2011)

We search researchers to join the multidisciplinary team exploring self-assembled biomimetic composites. New functional materials are designed, synthesized, characterized, and implemented also for devices.

As a successful application, you should be highly motivated in experimental multidisciplinary science and have background expertise in physics, materials science, or (bio)chemistry. Prior understanding of polymers and supramolecular interactions is highly appreciated.

The positions are immediately open, and applicants are urged to apply as soon as possible. Final deadline for applications is the 31.3.2012.

For details, please contact prof Olli Ikkala at the earliest convenience.
Application material should include:

  • A letter of motivation (max. one A4)
  • CV (including list of publications)
  • A letter of recommendation or contact detail of referee
  • For the PhD student positions: Transcript for university studies
