Applications are invited for the above post to provide technical support in Professor John Armour's group on a project funded by the BBSRC entitled "Copy number variation and gene expression" which is based in the Medical School on the QMC site, Nottingham.
The successful candidate will carry out measurements of gene copy number and gene expression and will be trained in these experiments under the guidance of the PI and postdoctoral fellow, but will be expected to perform them independently once trained.
The successful candidate will also maintain the organisation of blood, DNA and other samples used in the study, and record their experimental results. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide general laboratory support for this research laboratory to ensure the smooth running of this group.
Candidates should have a minimum of two A-Levels in relevant subjects, or equivalent qualifications (NVQ, City & Guild), plus some experience in a relevant technical/scientific role. OR considerable work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role. A good basic knowledge of laboratory techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis is essential.
This post is available from 1 July 2011 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2014. Hours of work are 18½ hours per week, to be agreed.
