Job Focus
•The PDM Rare Diseases Research Unit (RU) Head is responsible for developing and executing on strategic plans and portfolio deliverables agreed with the RU from Idea to Proof of Concept (POC). This leadership position includes managing their PDM TA Liaison Team for PDM representation within the RU and were necessary the Business Unit (BU), to work effectively with core discipline groups in PDM for efficient utilization of PDM resource and to represent PDM on the RU governance body.
•The individual is responsible for developing the strategy and goals for the RU and implementing these within PDM. As such, this individual will be accountable for review/endorsement of key portfolio milestones and PDM contributions to those milestones.
•The PDM operational responsibilities of this role include direct responsibility for operational excellence of their RU’s project-based Matrix Teams including matrix accountability for all PDM efforts through effective partnership with core discipline group members.
•This role is accountable for scientific quality, effective resource utilization to deliver portfolio goals, and successfully engaging the “people” agenda (e.g. colleague engagement, performance management, talent development, & building diversity).
In addition to participation in Global and PDM TA strategy, governance and operations, this person will also be carry a shared responsibility for sustaining a productive environment for PDM colleagues at the site and maintaining strong partnerships with other Research, Development and FSL lines at the site.
 
Qualifications
Training & Education Preferred:
•Ph.D.or equivalent experience in biological sciences, chemistry or a related field of research
•Education/Training in management and leadership skills


Prior Experience Preferred
•Broad knowledge of the drug discovery and development process and demonstrated ability to lead PDM sciences to advance novel therapeutic concepts gained through extensive experience in Pharmaceutical R&D
•Senior management experience, preferably within PDM or related expertise groups, in leading cross-functional drug discovery and/or development teams with budgetary responsibility and accountability for delivery of goals.
•In depth knowledge of portfolio management from therapeutic idea to late stage development
•A record of managerial and leadership excellence: proven success in talent identification and development, effective change management, effective team building, innovation management, strategic agility and business acumen.
