Band Salary £26,282 to £37,040per annum

Currently in our Centenary year, The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is one of the birthplaces of modern molecular biology and has played an important role in the development of many new techniques, most notably X-ray crystallography of proteins, DNA sequencing and monoclonal antibodies. With the opening of our new laboratory the LMB provides an unsurpassed environment for both young and established researchers. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, thus creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation.

The purpose of this position will be to work within a programme aimed at studying AMPA receptor signalling in neuronal networks. Specifically, to investigate AMPAR subunit remodelling and dendritic targeting in hippocampus in response to altered neuronal activity, and the role of RNA editing therein. In addition to brain slice electrophysiology this project involves confocal microscopy and transgenic mice. For more information please contact I Greger (ig@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk), or refer to Penn et al Neuron (2012); Balik et al Nucleic Acids Res (2013). Candidates should have a PhD in a biological or biophysical subject and good experience with electrophysiological recordings. Experience with brain-slice recordings would be advantageous. A basic knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques or confocal microscopy would be desirable.

Successful applicants will be awarded a three-year Career Development Fellowship. The fellowship is a training and development position for a post-doctoral scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, and is moving into a new research discipline.
Your salary will be supported by 30 days annual leave entitlement, an optional MRC final salary pension scheme and excellent on-site sports and social facilities.
