Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Systems Medicine : Helsinki, Finland
The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute in Helsinki focusing on human genomics and personalized medicine. FIMM is a partner institution of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). FIMM is a joint venture of the University of Helsinki, the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS), the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology centre and biobanking infrastructures and thereby promotes translational research and adoption of personalized medicine in health care.
FIMM is currently seeking outstanding candidates for the position of
Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Systems Medicine
The open position is in the field of computational systems medicine and personalized cancer research. It involves the development and application of computational, statistical, and machine learning methods for analyzing and modeling of large-scale drug testing and molecular profiling datasets. As part of a European research consortium, our objective is to integrate genome-wide genomic profiles of cancer patients with their ex vivo drug response profiles, with the aim of suggesting individualized treatment options based on response-predictive biomarkers (https://www.fimm.fi/en/research/grand-challenge-programmes/individualized-systems-medicine-cancer).
Qualification and experience:
A successful candidate is expected to have a doctoral degree in a suitable field (computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, mathematical modelling or other relevant field), excellent computational and programming skills and previous experience in multidisciplinary systems biology projects, including knowledge of network analyses, predictive modeling, and ideally also some experience in database development and software engineering. Demonstrated research work in drug-target interaction modeling and drug combination prediction is an asset. The researcher is expected to engage in an interdisciplinary research team and to foster collaborations with clinicians. The candidate should be fluent in English and have experience in project management and coordination.
Salary & contract:
A two year contract is initially available for the position, starting on 1.5.2015 (negotiable), with a possibility for a one-year extension pending successful review. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications based on the Finnish university salary (YPJ) system and is expected to be in the range of 3298 – 4045 €/month depending on the credentials, previous experience and performance of the postdoctoral researcher.
The application deadline is 31.3.2015 at 17.00 EEST. Please send the standard application material (cover letter, CV, list of publications, and at least two references) as a single PDF file with the subject line “Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Systems Medicine” to Tero Aittokallio (email@example.com). The review of applications will begin as soon as the applications arrive and applicants will be notified of the results of the preliminary review in mid-April. For further information please contact Tero Aittokallio (firstname.lastname@example.org).
