Doctoral position in neurobiology : Genova, Italy

Project “Molecular mechanisms of neurotrophin signaling in the adult brain”

One doctoral position is available at the Italian Institute of Technology, Center for Synaptic Neuroscience (Genova, Italy). The research project will focus on the molecular mechanisms of neurotrophin (NT) signaling in the adult brain. NTs are key players in the development of the nervous system. They mediate important neurophysiological processes such as neurogenesis, cell survival, migration, differentiation and synaptic plasticity. The interaction between NTs and their receptors activates a range of intracellular signaling pathways, however the mechanisms by which these vastly diverse outcomes are mediated by using a common pool of downstream molecules are only partially understood. The project will employ a number of genetically modified mouse lines deficient in NT signaling, to understand how NTs modulate the development and plasticity of the adult cortico-hippocampal circuits. The successful candidates will hold a Master degree in Biosciences (Medicine, Biology, Pharmacy, Biotechnology and similar) have a good background in cellular / molecular neurobiology, and possibly some experience in behavioral tests on rodents….
