Postdoctoral Scientist

Molecular Neurobiology

This is a full time fixed term contract for 3 years

Salary is from £33,500 per annum

We are offering one 3-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Dr. Vassilis Pachnis laboratory in the Division of Molecular Neurobiology at the MRC National Institute of Medical Research in London, UK. Situated in Mill Hill, North West London, the MRC National Institute for Medical Research is the largest MRC institute, supporting some 70 research groups and 500 bench scientists. From April 2015, NIMR will be part of the new and exciting biomedical research Institute in Central London, The Francis Crick Institute. As is currently the case at NIMR, the Crick will provide excellent training for researchers in a multi-disciplinary environment and will be equipped with state of the art facilities, including genetic modification of mice, imaging, histology, and high throughput sequencing.

We wish to identify an enthusiastic postdoctoral scientist who will be appointed as a Career Development Fellow to work with a high degree of independence. The project involves the characterization of the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underpin the development and homeostasis of the enteric nervous system with particular emphasis on its interaction with other gastrointestinal cell types and tissues (Kabouridis et al. Neuron 2015). The successful candidate will be expected to use a wide spectrum of experimental approaches, including generation and analysis of transgenic animal models, genome-wide gene expression analysis and ex vivo and in vivo physiological assays.

The successful candidate will have a relevant PhD or be in the final stages of completing their PhD in molecular biology, developmental biology, neuroscience or immunology. Knowledge of basic molecular biology and cell biology techniques is essential. Previous experience in the study of cell signalling and neurophysiology would be a significant advantage.

Applicants should be able to learn quickly, have an interest in collaborative work, be able to communicate scientific ideas effectively and have a proven publication record. High degree of enthusiasm to advance the project is essential for its successful outcome.
