Based at Newcastle University’s Institute of Genetic Medicine, the successful applicant will develop and lead a major research programme in the field of translational neuromuscular science and therapeutic development for neuromuscular disease. The candidate will be supported by the Institute of Genetic Medicine and the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre. Overall research quality, research power and impact of Newcastle’s Clinical Medicine is ranked within the top 10 in the UK. The focus of research will be in translational neuromuscular science, to establish the pre-clinical infrastructure to support the development of gene- and RNA-based and other therapeutics for neuromuscular diseases. Such pre-clinical developments will integrate closely with existing strengths in the Institute including neuromuscular genetics (where the Newcastle group enjoys a position of international research leadership and provides diagnostic services at national level via the National Commissioning Group) and stem cell biology.
