Project Leader - Bioinformatics Algorithms

Project Leader – Bioinformatics Algorithms (1002324)
Applications are invited for the position of Bioinformatics Algorithms Project Leader at The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC). The Project leader will establish a bioinformatics research programme focused on the development and implementation of novel algorithms for the processing of large genomics datasets, with an initial focus on assembly algorithms and quality assessment. Target datasets include genomic and transcriptomic data from diverse organisms including complex, polyploid crop genomes and environmental metagenomic samples.
The Bioinformatics Algorithms Project Leader will develop and lead the team focused on the development and application of computationally efficient algorithms for the analysis of genomic data from established sequencing and mapping technologies, and novel technologies adopted by TGAC’s genomics division. They will seek new funding opportunities and work to promote and provide best practice guidelines as part of the international bioinformatics community.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in computer science or bioinformatics, and a proven track record in algorithm development. Management experience is desirable but not essential. The candidate will have experience working with next generation sequence data and familiarity with assembly algorithms is essential. A strong background in programming, relational databases and statistics is required.
The Genome Analysis Centre is a vibrant research institute focused on the application of state of the art genomics and bioinformatics to advance plant, animal and microbial research and promote a sustainable bioeconomy. It is located with five other partners on the Norwich Research Park, a new bioscience cluster with an excellent reputation in plant and microbial sciences, interdisciplinary environmental science and food, diet and health.
Salary on appointment will be within the range £33,750 to £45,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This role is offered as a 3 year fixed term contract.
