SENIOR BIOINFORMATICS SCIENTIST

Beckman Coulter develops, manufactures and markets products that simplify,

The Senior Bioinformatics Scientist will have demonstrated leadership ability in
the field of next generation sequencing data analysis. The candidate will be
expected to develop and execute upon bioinformatics strategy hence proven
experience of building and communicating clear strategy and a track record of
delivering on goals is required. The candidate will lead a team of skilled
bioinformaticians hence a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team is a
prerequisite. Experience of working in and leading cross functional teams with a
customer centric view is a necessity for the successful candidate.
The Senior Bioinformatics Scientist will be responsible for working with
informatics and scientific personnel to implement, analyze and integrate Next
Generation sequencing data related to genomics research; designing and
developing in-house bioinformatics tools; evaluating and integrating
community-developed bioinformatics tools; performing appropriate quality control
measures using both manual and computational approaches; and providing technical
support and effective communication with user group.

Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Bioinformatics or related field with 8 years of experience
is required. An advanced degree with 6 years of experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead a team of bioinformaticians.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute upon strategy and supporting
plans.
• The ideal candidate will be familiar with common methods of statistical
analysis, publicly available bioinformatics tools and sites (e.g., BLAST, BLAT,
CLUSTAL, UCSC Genome Browser, NCBI Entrez, etc.).
• Demonstrate prior application of programming expertise (Perl and/or Java
preferred) to genomic data analysis and/or visualization problems.
• Experience with whole genome analysis, such as assembly and mapping a plus, as
is knowledge of variant (SNP, indel, CNV, etc) detection and gene expression
analysis.
• Must be familiar with or have knowledge of bioinformatics concepts, methods,
and tools. In particular, familiarity with cloud based solutions for next
generation sequencing data analysis.
• Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle, and Perl or required.
• Must be familiar with the various types of genomic data, tools and databases.
• Self-directed individual with a high level of initiative who is capable of
regular in-depth review and understanding of biomedical literature.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work
effectively in a team environment required.
