This post offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in cancer research as part of a comprehensive centre for treatment and research.
It is designed to fulfill the requirements for out-of-programme experience for a specialist trainee in medical, clinical or paediatric oncology, haematology or other disciplines related to cancer It may also be suitable for an individual who does not yet have a national training number but wishes to pursue a career in cancer medicine.
This post holder will work within the Southampton NIHR/CR UK Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and gain practical training in the conduct of early phase clinical trials. The appointee will provide day to day medical support for patients enrolled into phase I and II clinical trials of novel anti-cancer therapeutics.
In addition, the post will also allow for a defined translational/clinical research project within the infrastructure provide by the Southampton Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, the CR UK Centre and the Cancer Sciences Academic Group.
This aspect of the post could be used to provide training and preliminary data in preparation for an application to be made for a formal research training fellowship and registration towards a higher degree.
This is a 1 year fixed term contract in the first instance.
