The Musculoskeletal Bioengineering Laboratory at UC Davis has an immediate opening for a Junior Specialist. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to assist with setup, organization, and experiments. The main objectives of our research are (1) to develop a fundamental understanding of the cellular, biochemical, and biomechanical characteristics of articular cartilage, the knee meniscus, and the TMJ disc, and (2) to use this information to develop rational and novel approaches for tissue engineering.
The candidate will also play a key role in lab management. Examples of management duties include: maintaining lab supplies/inventories, equipment upkeep, and general lab organization. As a Junior Specialist Employee in the Athanasiou group, there will be plenty of opportunities to gain more research experience in the area of fibrocartilage tissue engineering using techniques such as cell culture and histology, biochemical assays, and mechanical testing. Your duties will include conducting experiments under supervision and preparing study results for publication. Proper laboratory research techniques and record-keeping are required. The Junior Specialist position is an entry level technician position limited to 2 years, with advancement available afterwards.
Applicants should have a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field. Proficiency in both written and verbal English are required. Previous lab experience (with references) preferred. Strong organizational skills are a must.
