The Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship is a one- or two-year program. Based in Mayo Clinic's Molecular Genetics Laboratory, it provides experience in DNA testing for inherited diseases and oncology/hematology. Optional training in other clinical laboratories that utilize molecular diagnostics will be available to you. Your allocation of time between clinical applications and research is also flexible.
For M.D.s who are already board certified in pathology or medical genetics, this training will provide eligibility to sit for the examination in molecular genetic pathology offered jointly by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) and the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG).
Individuals completing the two-year fellowship in Clinical Molecular Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics or Clinical Biochemical Genetics will be eligible to sit the ABMG General examination and relevant specialty examination.
M.D. fellows who have already completed two years of an accredited Medical Genetics Residency will be eligible to sit for the specialty examination after one year of training. The Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship is being structured to meet eligibility requirements to sit for the examination in Molecular Genetic Pathology that will be jointly offered by the ABP and ABMG.
This fellowship program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
