Applications are invited for the above post to work on an MRC-funded study that will investigate a novel PET tracer to image ictogenicity in medically-refractory epilepsy and epileptogenesis in patients after stroke and traumatic brain injury at-risk of developing epilepsy. The post holder will assess patients for their eligibility, obtain informed consent, and ensure highest quality data collection through follow-up in accordance with the trial protocol and good clinical practice; an Honorary Clinical Assistant contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust. The post thus provides an excellent opportunity to broaden clinical skills and undertake research training including extensive experience with quantitative magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography.
The study will be based in years 1, 2, 4 and 5 at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine, using a state-of-the-art MR-PET scanner, and in years 3 to 5 also at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, University of Cambridge, working with a multidisciplinary research team of physicists, chemists, radiographers, imaging data analysts, as well as clinicians, pathologists and neurosurgeons.
Applicants should hold GMC registration; have completed general medical training, and have clinical or research experience in Neurology/Epilepsy, and in imaging. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, and a very high level of consideration and care for patients and research subjects, are also required.
The post is available immediately and is funded for the period to September 2016 in the first instance by a contract under the MRC-DPFS scheme. Starting salary will be £34,220 per annum including London Allowance on the UCL Grade CL7 scale, superannuable.
