Opening For Clinical Research Fellow - Dundee

 Job Ref: MDN0894
Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
Fixed Term for 24 months

We wish to appoint a motivated research fellow to carry out a variety of interesting studies on drugs and biomarkers in cardiovascular disease whilst gaining experience in the running of large cardiovascular clinical trials. The post is based in the combined Medicines Monitoring Unit (MEMO) & Hypertension Research Centre (HRC) which is part of the Division of Medicine Sciences of the University located on the Ninewells Hospital & Medical School site. The unit hosts a variety of research staff including physicians, pharmacists, research nurses, statisticians, computer programmers and support staff. The unit has a wide variety of research facilities. It is part of the British Hypertension Society research network and it is closely aligned with the NHS Regional CV risk clinic, a European Society of Hypertension centre of excellence. The unit also runs large randomised clinical trials and has an extensive network of collaborating Universities, investigators, and general practices. The unit also carries out drug epidemiology studies and has ‘gold’ access to the UK General Practice Research Database and also the MEMO database. The unit is part of the European Medicines Agency ENCePP group.

The post can be funded for 2-3 years and we will expect applicants to complete a higher degree within this time. We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious clinician to join our team. We have an international track record of excellence in cardiovascular medicine and drug epidemiology with a strong publication record. Previous research fellows have all achieved senior posts including two professorial posts.

The projects will be supervised by Professor T M MacDonald and Dr I Mackenzie. The post is ideally suited for an MD or PhD and would suit someone wanting to do research during their specialist training. Possession of MRCP or MRCGP is essential and the successful candidate will have opportunities to carry out some clinical work if desired.
