Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow (CRF) in the Respiratory Infections section of the National Heart and Lung Institute.  
We seek an enthusiastic CRF (Specialist Registrar Grade or equivalent) with bronchoscopy skills to work on the European Union Framework Programme Seven funded research project “Platform for European preparedness against re-emerging epidemics (PREPARE)”. The project will investigate the pathogenesis of influenza disease in human volunteers. You will receive training in a wide range of experimental and immunological skills and contribute to the successful running of all aspects of the research project, including the supervision of other staff as appropriate. 
You should have a degree in Medicine and full GMC registration. It is essential that you are confident and skilled in practical clinical procedures and ideally have a strong background in one of the following disciplines: thoracic medicine, immunology, infectious diseases, virology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), and/or Tuberculosis (TB). It is essential that you are skilled and independently capable in bronchoscopic techniques, although we will be able to provide additional training in this regard. You should also have good written and verbal communication skills, analytical and problem solving abilities and have proven ability to complete projects, work to deadlines and cooperate with other team members. A record of peer reviewed publications is highly desirable but not essential.
You will be expected to register and work towards a PhD. You will be appointed on an honorary contract with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust; there will be no fixed clinical duties and no on-call, but you will be encouraged to participate in clinical activities in order to maintain your skills and to support the clinical service. The degree of contribution will not be extensive (less than 6 hours per week), and is limited to allow delivery of the research programme.
The post is Full-time and fixed-term for 3 years in the first instance, based at St Mary’s Campus, Paddington. The post will be in an extremely rich clinical research environment, promoting translational research and the development of new therapies.
