Grade 7: Salary in the range of £30,434 – £37,394 per annum
We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to provide an oversight to a number of laboratories within the newly opened Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, a centre of excellence for multi-disciplinary inflammation research within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences.
You will have day to day responsibility for laboratory management within the Institute as well as providing support, advice and training to members of research staff and graduate students while ensuring adherence to safety protocols and current legislation. You will negotiate maintenance contracts for laboratory equipment and manage laboratory running costs. You will also work with information technology staff to develop databases to organize reagents and samples as well as implement an electronic notebook system and monitor compliance with this system in the laboratories.
You must have a degree in life sciences or equivalent experience, and previous experience in day to day running of a biomedical laboratory with the ability to initiate and carry out research techniques. You will have excellent organisational and management skills, good communication and team working skills as well as experience of training and mentoring junior members of staff. Experience of Internet-based ordering and invoicing system would be an advantage.
This is a fixed term appointment for three years in the first instance. The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to standard compulsory pre-employment screening.
