 A Research Manager is required to join the department of Clinical Surgery at the University of Edinburgh and support its education and research activities. The post holder will manage a variety of research projects and will be responsible for ensuring these projects are completed to time and budget. The post holder will also be responsible for the coordination of a number of local, national and international studies, including financial and scientific reporting, as well as day-to-day administration for example GlobalSurg (
The University of Edinburgh, in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), has developed award-winning, part-time online Masters programmes to support the early and advanced surgical trainee (see, and the post holder is expected to provide assistance to students conducting their research projects as part of the MSc and ChM programmes. Currently, supervision of Masters disserations is arranged by the student and delivered locally but approved by the Masters programmes. It is anticipated that this post would enable an opportunity to facilitate programmes of research that would involve students irrespective of their location.
Applicants should be experienced graduates, preferably in a science subject, and possess skills in clinical data management and analysis of complex clinical data. A postgraduate qualification is highly desirable. Experience in multi-disciplinary research and knowledge of a range of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies would be advantageous. Candidates require excellent organisational and communication skills, and an imaginative and flexible approach to problem solving.
