Job Description/Essential Functions:
Fungal and/or Algal Molecular Genetics
Responsible for providing technical leadership for ongoing research and development programs, including yeast, filamentous fungal and /or algal host systems, and the development of cloning, transformation, expression and genetic manipulation tools as part of a larger synthetic biology technology initiative and R&D team.
Initiates, directs, executes and drives scientific research and/or strategies through the research staff or in individual studies.
Independently designs and executes experiments. Critically analyzes/interprets complex data and trouble shoots effectively.
This position provides excellent opportunities to gain experience in cutting-edge research, development of new products, and gain exposure to marketing, business development and field applications in a cross-functional team environment.
Extensive experience with eukaryotic algal and/or fungal systems. Strong experience in vector construction (PCR, standard and advanced cloning), gene expression analysis (qRT-PCR or NGS), genetic manipulation (DNA delivery methods, episomal or integrative plasmids), protein expression analysis (Western analysis, fluorescence microscopy, reporter assays) as well as culture and physiology of micro-algae and/or fungi.
Experience with tools development and applications in a range of species beyond established model or industrial organisms is highly desired. Understanding and experience in cellular metabolism, metabolic flux analysis and microbial production highly desired.
Proven ability to quickly absorb new and complex technical information, adapt, and acquire relevant new skill sets. Demonstrated ability for effective verbal and written communication.
Excellent analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills required. Ability to simultaneously manage multiple priorities required.
Ability to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor required. Computer literacy is essential. Experience with industrial/academic collaborations highly desired.
Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field and 7 or more years combined experience in the technical areas above. Candidates with industrial experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
