The Wind Energy Unit within Uni BCCS, Uni Research AS is seeking an outstanding Group Leader. Uni BCCS (Bergen Centre for Computational Science) is a department of Uni Research, the research company affiliated with the University of Bergen, Norway. The future Group Leader will be part of the management group of the department and will report directly to the Research Director of the department.
Currently the Wind Energy Unit is conducting high quality cross-disciplinary research for an ongoing offshore wind energy project sponsored by the Research Council of Norway and industry. The research is focusing on the Marine Boundary Layer (MBL) modeling for offshore wind parks and involves models on mesoscale, mesoscale-wave model coupling, large eddy simulations and CFD. The goal is to model the key features of full scale offshore wind farms in realistic offshore environments. The group currently consists of a PhD student, a postdoctoral researcher and senior researchers.
The future Group Leader will establish and further extend research in the field of CFD and integrate it into the ongoing mesoscale modeling activity and climate research. The successful candidate should have a PhD and post-doctoral experience including a good publication record. An interest in artificial intelligence applications will be considered as a plus. In addition, the Group Leader is expected to have strong teaming and communications skills, and the ability to lead people into innovative pursuits. The Group Leader's duties include a broad range of leadership activities important to the effective and efficient operation of the group. The successful candidate needs to work equally effectively with both academic partners and business unit leaders, and is expected to participate in the formulation of future activities within the research group and in collaboration with other research groups. The future Group Leader has a coordinative responsibility to develop the field of research and bring new research ideas to the group. He/She shall also initiate and coordinate applications for funding. He/she shall take part in the elaboration of the department’s research strategy together with the Research Director.
