Post-Doctoral Researcher in Computational Mechanics

Schlumberger is the world's leading supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to customers working in the oil and gas industry worldwide. Employing approximately 105,000 people representing over 140 nationalities and working in more than 80 countries, Schlumberger provides the industry's widest range of products and services from exploration through production.

SCR is a science and engineering research laboratory, located in Cambridge, UK, that carries out fundamental and applied research developing new technologies for the oil field.
KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. There are circa 13,300 full-year undergraduate students, 1,500 postgraduate students and 3,900 employees.
The Drilling group at SCR is currently looking for candidates for a one year-post-doc research position. The purpose of the project is to develop mechanical numerical models to simulate the drilling process. Our objective is to understand the effect of particular drilling tools to the governing mechanisms of the drilling process, and to put this to practical use in devising new methods for designing, monitoring and controlling such processes. The challenge is to push the boundaries of drillable wells and allow better recovery of hydrocarbons.
The successful candidate will have a recent PhD in computational solid mechanics or mathematics applied to mechanics. Experience of finite element method, numerical methods in general and programming is an advantage. Good communication and writing in English are essential, although knowledge of Swedish is not necessary. The successful candidate may be required to spend several weeks at KTH in Sweden, at the start of the assignment.
We would like the successful candidate to start in early 2011
